There is no single rate for a DJ for a simple reason: no event is similar.
Unlike a standard product, a DJ service is unique and its price depends on parameters: place, schedule, equipment, desired atmosphere, technical constraints, etc.
This is why an automatic tariff or standardized form would be misleading. Two apparently similar events may require a completely different organization.
As in other tailor-made occupations (photographers, decorators, artisans, etc.), the price can only be determined correctly after knowing the customer's real needs.
Saturdays between March and June are very busy with weddings. Thursdays in December are very much demanded by companies. New Year can lead to an increase of 30% to 50%.
The distance to be travelled by the provider impacts the fare: the TCS estimates the 2025 fare of 0.78CHF / km. It is therefore preferable to hire a local DJ.
The equipment provided by a DJ is charged less than a rental. Nevertheless, the equipment must be adequate for the event. Lighting must be of good quality and properly arranged in a large volume.
There are several DJ contact platforms, it's the provider pays the match. StarOfService.ch requests CHF1400.- per year / to be amortized. Stagend.ch asks for 20% of the stamp, and the ‘promotion' of the profile costs CHF600.- / year. The presence on a platform can be a sign of volume of work, but it also has a consequence on the rate that the DJ will propose due to the induced costs.
A professional DJ pays social charges on his turnover. He must hold accounts which must be presented to the tax administration.
A club resident DJ will have more demand, and set higher rates than a private event specialist.
Equipment rental can be a good option for your private evening if your budget is less than 700.–. It's a simple solution on paper, but it's quite binding: transport, installation, settings, problem management... and then back the next day.
In this context, a professional DJ cannot play on equipment rented and installed by an individual: too much technical uncertainty and no control over reliability.
Events such as youth parties, carnivals, clubs or gourmands are special situations.
In these contexts, the stage and all the equipment are installed by a professional technician, with reliable and suitable equipment. There, yes, a DJ is delighted to come without his own equipment, and the cost of the performance can naturally be lower.
It is also in these environments that one often hears tariffs found around 300 to 800.– These are usually club DJs or DJs used to working on equipment already in place.
In summary:
Private rental → budget option, but binding, and not adapted to bring a DJ.
Scene mounted by a pro (club, carnival, giron, youth party) → often lower rate and as well accepted because brings visibility.

The DJ budget sometimes takes into account specific needs: uplights, beam, heavy smoke, confetti, etc.

As a rule, companies use a professional DJ because for accounting reasons, the DJ must be declared.
The administrative part takes longer than for a wedding or an anniversary. You have to produce an offer, sometimes validate the order, and produce an invoice for both the account and the final payment.
